Alberto G. Cano Jr., 57, entered eternal rest on January 9, 2026. He was born on October 12, 1968. Albert Cano leaves a legacy defined by steadfast love, faith, and an unconditional commitment to his family. Those who knew him best understood that Albert did not treat love as something merely felt, but as something chosen, again and again, through responsibility, loyalty, and daily care. He was a man whose presence spoke louder than words, and whose devotion to the people he loved remained consistent from beginning to end. Albert’s love was especially evident in the way he remained faithfully devoted to his beloved wife, Cleo, walking beside her with steadiness and tenderness throughout her life. Even in the midst of his own grief, Albert modeled humility and discipline, finishing what love required of him. After completing the novena and praying the rosary for Cleo, he told those gathered, “Now that I have finished the novena, now I’m going to check into the hospital to care for myself.” In that single moment, Albert revealed the heart of who he was: faithful to the end, intentional in his choices, and honest about carrying responsibilities with dignity. That same steady devotion shaped Albert’s life beyond his home. For 20 years, he served Hidalgo County Precinct 1, and he remained proudly employed there at the time of his passing. He brought the same reliability and sense of duty to his work that he brought to every part of his life, showing up, following through, and serving with quiet strength. He really enjoyed showing up to work every single day to rub elbows with all Precinct One friends and employees. Albert’s commitment also reached deeply into his community and friendships. He had a special way of showing up for others when it mattered most. When families were facing hardship, Albert was the one who stepped forward to help with BBQ benefits, not only cooking and serving, but also finding sponsors to help reduce costs so families could focus on what truly mattered. That was Albert: generous, steady, and thoughtful, always looking for a way to lighten someone else’s burden. Even on the days he was not feeling well, he still chose to help others. He had a big heart, and he lived with the kind of compassion that made people feel supported and never alone. Though Albert’s time on earth was 57 years, he gave his family and community a lifetime example of what real commitment looks like: showing up, staying present, serving others, and making people feel seen, included, and held close. His life reminds us that love is measured not only in words, but in presence, especially when it is difficult. Albert is survived by his father, Alberto G. Cano; his mother, Alicia Cano; and his grandmother, Ms. Socorro Cano. He is also survived by his siblings: Michael Cano (Jocabed) and their children Michelle Cano, Arely Cano, and Michael Cano Jr.; Liza Garcia (John) and their children Jon Gavin, JayLynn Madison and Julianna Marie; and his younger brother, Mario Cano. He is also survived by his aunt Esmeralda Cano Guerrero and cousin Georgina Guerrero Lamantia (Dan). Albert’s memory will be carried forward in the hearts of all who loved him. May his life continue to teach us what he lived so well: to love with depth, to commit with steadiness, and to remain faithful to the people, and the community we are blessed to call our own. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 1:00 P.M to 9:00 P.M. and Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 16, 2026, with a 9:30 A.M. departure for a 10:00A.M. mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will then follow at Mercedes Memorial Restlawn Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction and care of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Mercedes, Texas.
