BALDEMAR G. RIVERA

Baldemar G. Rivera, 81, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016 in Edinburg Texas. He was born September 30, 1934 to Francisco and Angelita Gonzalez Rivera. He is survived by his loving family: Sisters Blanca R. Escobar- Noe Escobar (+) Edinburg, TX, Mary R. Dominguez- Gilberto H. Dominguez, Mercedes, Maricela R. Galvan –Santos Galvan (+) La Feria, TX, Angelita R. Longoria - Enrique Longoria Mercedes, TX, Baldemar started his career as a police officer with the City of Mercedes, Texas, having served as an officer for a number of years. From there he moved forward to the City of Weslaco, Texas wherein he earned the rank of Sergeant. In August 1985, Baldemar was offered the position of Chief of Police for the City of Falfurrias, TX. He took the position and concluded is law enforcement career after serving Falfurrias for 17 years. He retired in August, 2002 and returned to Weslaco, Texas, where he lived until his death. Law enforcement was a passion for Baldemar G. Rivera. He enjoyed being a police officer very much and always visited Falfurrias to visit with friends. He also enjoyed horse racing and often traveled to Ruidoso, New Mexico to spend time doing something he enjoyed. At this time, we would like to express our appreciation to Drs. Roberto Sepulveda and Gabriel Gonzales, Knapp Memorial Hospital, and the Second Floor Surgical Wing Staff, for the special care and attention that was given to our brother, during his stay. Of special note, the family would like to thank the staff of the Amara Hospice facility of Edinburg, for their loving care of our brother Baldemar as well as the hospitality that expressed to the family. He is preceded in death by his wife: Denise W. Rivera (+), Son: Baldemar Rivera, Jr (+), Parents Francisco Rivera (+), Angelita Gonzales (+), Brothers: Jose Rivera (+) Janice Rivera, Frank Rivera (+) Elma R. Hernandez, Candelario Rivera (+) Minerva Rivera, Sisters Lucia R. Romero (+) Guadalupe Romeo (+) and Delia R. Abrego (+) Rodolfo Abrego (+). Visitation will be held on Sundau, February 28, 2016 from 4:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 29, 2016 for a 3:00p.m. chapel service at Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace and interment will then follow at Mercedes Restlawn Cemetery in Mercedes Texas. Funeral services are under the direction and care of Rudy Garza funeral home of Mercedes texas.
