Christina Sunshine Curry Tullos

Christina Sunshine Curry Tullos passed away on February 13, 2025, while asleep. She had recently celebrated her 15th birthday. She was born on January 19, 2010. Christina was the daughter of Robin Tullos and Esmeralda Guzman of Harlingen. After her father Robin passed away, her grandmother, Mary Lou Tullos and her partner, Mario (Sharky) Curry adopted her. She is also survived by her grandparents, Lester and Bertha Tullos. All are life-long residents of Harlingen. She was the granddaughter of Mr. Gilberto and Juanita Garcia, deceased, of Harlingen. A vivacious and perplexing girl since birth, Christina loved to draw and write short stories. As an introvert/extrovert, she gravitated toward explorations of the different galaxies of the universe. They guided her interests and life plans and how she interacted with people and family. Christina’s passion was the beach. Even before she learned to swim, she loved to frolic in the waves. She was like a fish. Rarely was she ready to come out of the water to go home. When not at the beach, she enjoyed playing video games and surfing the Web for interesting tidbits of amusement, games, and insights into the secret thoughts and desires of a teenager. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she immediately made plans to overcome her illness because by that time she had gotten interested in weightlifting and track while a student at Coakley Middle School. She loved to run! She was determined to resume her studies and her love of sports. As a typical teen, Christina had started to chart a vision of what she wanted to be when she grew up. She dreamed of becoming a Marine Biologist and perhaps work at a zoo or an aquarium. Lofty vision! Christina’s greatest virtue was giving her love unconditionally. Her family misses her greatly. The viewing will begin on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen. Her life will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, departing the funeral home at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church with Father Ruben as celebrant. She will be buried next to her dad at Mount Meta Cemetery in San Benito, Texas. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends might donate to the Ronald McDonald House in Corpus Christi. The staff there and at the Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi and at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston were invaluable and dedicated parts of Christina’s tenure as a patient. May she rest in peace. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas.
