Cruz Coronado, 68, entered into eternal rest on May 20, 2026, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on May 8, 1958, in Harlingen, Texas, to Valerio Coronado and Mercedes Castillo Coronado. Cruz lived a life rooted in faith, compassion, and service to others. A dedicated educator throughout her life, she devoted many years to shaping and inspiring her students until her retirement. Her passion for teaching led her to serve in a remote village in Alaska, where she was the primary educator for the community’s school. She also taught in Ohio and served in both public and parochial schools, always carrying herself with patience, kindness, and a genuine love for children and learning. Those who knew Cruz will remember her as a selfless and giving woman whose heart was always centered on helping others. She lived her life with humility and grace, always willing to serve and never expecting anything in return. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. She was a devoted member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harlingen and later St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Houston. Through her dedication to the Church, she became a member of the Carmelite Order and faithfully served her parish and community. Family meant everything to Cruz. She treasured every moment spent with her loved ones and was always present for family gatherings, celebrations, and milestones. Her love, support, and gentle spirit touched the lives of her siblings, nieces, nephews, and all who had the blessing of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She is survived by her brothers, Jesus Coronado of Houston, Guadalupe Coronado (Sara) of Harlingen, Anastacio Coronado (Michelle) of Houston, and Roman Coronado of Harlingen. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Cruz was preceded in death by her parents, Valerio Coronado and Mercedes Castillo Coronado; her sisters, Clara Coronado, Maria de los Angeles MacKenzie, Francisca Coronado, and Elisa Coronado; and her sister-in-law, Maria Dora Coronado. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen, Texas. Funeral services will continue Thursday, May 28, 2026, departing the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harlingen. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be her family members.
