Dora Elfida Montalvo

Dora Elfida Guerra de Montalvo, 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 21, 2025 in La Feria,TX. She was born on March 1, 1938 in Garciasville, TX. She is survived by her daughter Miranda Ramos (Carlos) of Lyford, son Orlando Montalvo (Lisa) of La Feria, son Ornaldo Montalvo (Iris) of College Station and grandchildren Micah Ramos (Kelly), Travis Ramos, Jake Ramos, Carly Ramos, Shiann Moraida (Noe), Syerra Montalvo, Ethan Montalvo, and Sadie Montalvo. Her pride and joy were her four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Olga (Ruben) Saenz, Isabel Jones of Rio Grande City, TX, and her only brother, Fidelio Guerra (Cynthia) of San Antonio, TX. along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Eriberto (Eddie) Montalvo, her parents Dora H. and Fidelio G. Guerra, her sister Nelda Garza, and her in-laws Samuel and Rafaela Montalvo. Dora grew up in Garciasville, TX and was the middle child. She often shared her fond memories of playing tops and marbles with her brother, and how she would in good-nature pester her younger sister. She graduated from Pan American College where she majored in education. Dora taught for 41 years, 35 of those were spent in Rio Hondo as an elementary teacher. That was her home away from home. After retiring, she never missed an opportunity to substitute for her former colleagues. Teaching was her passion. Dora was a sweet and gentle soul who appreciated the simple things in life. She was an amazing cook. Every meal was made with love and shared with her family, neighbors or colleagues. She genuinely enjoyed being outdoors and tending to her yard. Her long walks were her time to reflect and pray. Undoubtedly, what she cherished the most was attending her grandchildren’s activities, especially their athletic events. Her greatest belief was that life is not over when it’s over. In fact, it has just begun. Visitation will begin Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM, a recitation of the holy rosary will be at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 26, 2025 with a chapel service at 10:00 AM at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home. Services will conclude after the chapel service.
