Frank Puente Sr.

Francisco T. Puente Sr. of Harlingen Texas was called to be with the Lord on Monday, October 10, 2022. He died peacefully surrounded by his beloved wife Tina Puente and his 7 children. Francisco (Frank) was born to the late Guadalupe Puente and Ernestina Trevino Puente in Matamoros, Tamps. Mexico on August 21, 1937. Francisco married Ernestina (Tina) V. Puente on December 30, 1961, and had 7 children: Frank Puente Jr., (Rita), Cynthia Thompson (Doug), Rose Mary Slagle (Dan), Edward Puente (Laura), Diana Resendez (Tito), Marco Puente (April), and Gabriel Puente (Karla). Lovingly referred to as “Popo”; Francisco’s legacy will live on through his 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, whom he enjoyed spending time with whenever he had the opportunity. In addition to his parents, Francisco, one of 5 siblings, is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Soto and Hector Puente. His surviving siblings are Santiago (Jimmy) Puente of Harlingen, Texas and Juan Puente of Detroit, Michigan. Francisco proudly served in the United States Air Force where he developed his love for travel having been stationed in various locations in the US, Europe, and Africa. Throughout the years he worked as a general manager of Cook’s department stores in Fort Worth, TX and Clovis, NM. He worked as a bookkeeper, and life insurance agent, but is probably most remembered in Harlingen for his company Don-Rite Roofing, Puente Roofing Contractors. He was a devout catholic and faithful parishioner of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Frank was known for having a friendly smile and for welcoming others into the Puente home. He loved to eat out, read novels, watch movies, and take road trips. He will be remembered most of all for his remarkable sense of humor and for loving his wife, children, and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17, 2022 with a mass at 10:00 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Military services will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. at Queen of Peace parking lot under the auspices of American Legion Post #205 of Harlingen Texas Funeral services will continue with visitation at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM and a prayer service will begin at 6:00 PM. Services will conclude Monday evening. If ordering flowers, please have them delivered to Rudy Garza Funeral Home.
