Maria Anzaldua Quintanilla

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Maria Quintanilla, passed away peacefully at the age of 88. She was born on November 26, 1936, in Beeville, Texas, to Francisco Anzaldua and Martha Garza Anzaldua. Maria met the love of her life, Martin Quintanilla Sr., at the age of 16, and they married in 1952. Their love story spanned over 70 years until Martin’s passing in December 2022. Maria was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a caring stepmother to four children: Martin Quintanilla Jr., Joel Quintanilla Sr., and her stepdaughters Nellie Quintanilla Munoz and Nancy Quintanilla Guerrero. For over 40 years, Maria was a professional and talented seamstress, highly sought after throughout southern Texas. She took great pride in her work, creating beautiful dresses for weddings, quinceañeras, and a variety of other garments for her customers. In addition to her sewing skills, Maria had a passion for cooking and baking, and she lovingly prepared meals for her family and baked treats for her friends. Maria is survived by her son Joel (Sara) Quintanilla Sr., daughter-in-law Nora Quintanilla, stepdaughters Nellie (Enrique) Munoz and Nancy Guerrero, as well as her three brothers, Jesus Anzaldua, Ruben Anzaldua, and Martin Anzaldua. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom were her pride and joy. Maria was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Martin Quintanilla Sr., her son Martin Quintanilla Jr., her parents Francisco and Martha Anzaldua, and her siblings: sisters Guadalupe A. Gonzalez, Aurora A. Cantù, Ursula Anzaldua, and brothers Jose Anzaldua and Arnulfo Anzaldua. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM at Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Mercedes, Texas. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 6, 2024, with the procession departing the funeral home at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM service at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes. Services will conclude at the church. Pallbearers will be Joel Quintanilla Jr., Adrian Pena, Robert Gracia, Abel Q. Ayala, Rolando Hernandez, and Romo Sanchez. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Mercedes, Texas.
