Maria M. Ysaguirre

Maria (Mary) Ysaguirre, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother peacefully passed away on November 11, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 7, 1935, to the late Caterina and Guadalupe Martinez. Mary attended school in Rio Hondo. She was married to the love of her life, Paul Ysaguirre Sr. for 52 years. Paul and Mary lived in many locations due to his time in the Air Force. When he was stationed in Germany, Mary flew for her first time with their two young sons to join him there for four years. She was a woman of tremendous faith. She was a member of St. Anthony’s parish. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, volunteered counting money every Monday and worked on different social events at church with the other “church ladies”. She also volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mary could be found praying the Rosary or Divine Mercy Chaplet daily in her favorite chair surrounded by photographs of her loved ones, Jesus, and St. Mary. Her love for the Holy Family inspired her collection of Nativities that were on display year-round in her home. Mary loved to organize and was a meticulous record keeper. She made scrapbooks for each child and grandchild with handwritten notes of the event, date, and names of those in the pictures. She taught her children and grandchildren to love God, work hard, and treat others with kindness. She loved to travel and was particularly excited about two pilgrimages she took to the Holy Land, Fatima and Rome. She even got to attend mass said by Pope John Paul ll while in Rome. Mary worked for HCISD for 20 years before retiring. In her retirement years, she enjoyed gardening, water aerobics, cooking and baking her famous “Christmas cookies”. Mary will be deeply missed by “her boys” (as she called them) and their families; Mario Ysaguirre (Carmen), Paul Ysaguirre, Jr. (Mel), Richard Ysaguirre, Rey Ysaguirre (Debbie); her grandchildren, Kristina Garcia (Juan), Kimberly Ysaguirre (Justin Wendel), Kristopher Ysaguirre, Devon Ysaguirre, Taylor Ysaguirre, Anissa Ysaguirre (Julian Gaytan), Melissa Ysaguirre, Rey Ysaguirre, Jr. (Clarissa), and great-grandchildren Jackson and Elaina. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Caterina and Guadalupe Martinez and her husband Paul Ysaguirre, Sr. Friends and loved ones are invited to pay respects to Mary Thursday November 16, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 departing the Rudy Garza Funeral Home at 12:30 PM for a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church and burial will follow at Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito. The caring professionals at Rudy Garza Funeral Homes have been entrusted with the arrangements for Mary's final farewell. Their compassionate support and guidance during this difficult time are greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank Calidad Hospice, especially Maria Ortiz for her thoughtful care and compassion, Dr. Shenkenberg and the staff at Valley Cancer Associates.
