Minerva Vela

Minerva Vela, at the age of 91, entered into eternal rest on July 3, 2025, in Harlingen, Texas, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family, a reflection of the love she gave so freely throughout her life. Minerva was a woman of remarkable strength, warmth, and spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will echo through generations. She is survived by her five devoted children—Jose A. Vela, Jr., Maria Irene Vela, Eduardo Vela (Becky), Danny Vela (Mary), and Jose A. “Tony” Vela (Layne). Her legacy continues through numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will forever remember the warmth of her embrace. Minerva also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Gavino Cavazos, Janie Gonzalez, Leticia Gutierrez, and Yolanda Granados (Frank). She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Jose Adan Vela, and her siblings Armando Cavazos, Carlos Montez Antunez, and Dolores Quesada. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 pm. and a celebration of life service will begin at 7:00 p.m. pm at Faith Assembly of God Church, 22510 N. Expressway 77, in Harlingen, Texas with Pastor George De La Garza officiating. Services will conclude following the service. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Minerva loved her family fiercely and found joy in the simple things tending her plants, crafting, cooking for those she loved, and watching cartoons with a smile. She was known for her honesty, her warmth, and her faith. Her love for Jesus guided her life, and her strong spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She found strength in her church, and peace in prayer. Though she is no longer with us, her love lives on in the generations she nurtured and inspired. We are grateful for the time we had and the memories we hold. To the staff of Legacy Hospice, the family extends their heartfelt thanks for the compassion and care shown during this time. And to all the friends and family who visited, sent prayers, or brought food, thank you. Your kindness reminded them that love never leaves us; it surrounds us when we need it most.
