Raquel V. Davila

Our beloved mother, Raquel V. Davila, was commended to the mercy of God and entered eternal rest peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the age of 79. A devoted mother, she was a constant source of love, strength, and inspiration to all who knew her. Raquel was born in Mercedes, Texas, on January 15, 1946. Raquel lived a life rooted in faith, love, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a loving mother, cherished grandmother, and passionate educator. A graduate of Mercedes High School, she began her career as a teacher’s aide at Relampago. She later taught at Runn Elementary in Donna and then at West Elementary in Mercedes. Determined to become an educator, Raquel worked by day and attended school by night, earning her bachelor’s degree in education from The University of Texas–Pan American. In addition to teaching elementary students, she devoted many years to educating adults through night school, helping them earn their GED or citizenship. After 32 years of dedicated service, she retired from Mercedes ISD to help raise and teach her beloved grandchildren. Beyond her career, Raquel was a devoted mother to her two sons, Inez and Victor, always placing family above all else. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where she also taught CCE for several years. She found joy in traveling, sewing, gardening, Bible study, and spending time with her loved ones. Her home was especially known for its joyful New Year celebrations shared with her closest cousins: Zenida and Felipe† Presas and their sons, Javier, Felipe, and Gabriel; Janie and Roy Rivera and their children Dora Lisa, Mindy, and Roy Jr.; and Frank and Velma† and their children Christina, Marcie, Frankie, and their beautiful families. While our hearts mourn her loss, we rejoice in the comfort of knowing that Raquel is now at peace, reunited with our Lord, and watching over us with love. She is survived by her sons [Inez (Crystal) Davila III and Victor (Viya) Davila]; her grandchildren, [Brandon, Austin, Justin, Christian, and Aiden]; her siblings, [Antonio† (Irma†) Guzman, Ester (Gilberto) Rivera, Eugenia (Ove) Rivera, Hortenicia Guzman, Nestor† Guzman, Rafael† (Diana) Guzman, Janie† (Jacinto) Mena, Felipe (Ninfa) Guzman, Ninfa (Juan) Garza, Herminia (George) Garcia, Hector† (Noemi) Guzman, Juan Manuel† (Virgina) Guzman] She was preceded in death by her parents [ Nestor† and Rosa† Villarreal, Antonio† and Ester† Guzman]. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 1:00P.M. to 9:00P.M. and Monday, January 19, 2026, from 1:00P.M. to 9:00P.M. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00P.M. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30A.M. for a 10:00A.M. mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will then follow at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes, Texas.
