In Loving Memory of Roberto “Beto” Rivera Guajardo August 26, 1948 - September 7, 2025 It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, Pompos (grandfather), great grandfather, brother, uncle, father-in-law, brother-in-law, son in law and friend. Roberto “Beto” Rivera Guajardo, 77, left us suddenly on September 7, 2025, at JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, California, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on August 26, 1948, in Mercedes, Texas. Roberto’s life was always centered around one guiding principle—family. From an early age, he learned the importance of hard work and the love of a close-knit family. As the eldest of six siblings, he stepped into the role of protector and provider, always looking out for those he loved. His deep sense of responsibility and his unwavering devotion to his family were constants throughout his life. His early years were spent working in the fields under Guajardo and Sons of Weslaco, Texas. This is where he learned the true meaning of perseverance and strength and this is where he met the love of his life, Refugia (Cuca), with whom he shared 60 years of love, laughter, and companionship. In addition to a devoted husband, he became the proud father of 5 children, whom he loved unconditionally, and cherished grandfather of 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. His family was the center of his world, and he always made sure they knew how much they meant to him. Roberto treasured the time he spent with his family, imparting wisdom and love in equal measure. Together Roberto and Cuca moved to Weslaco where he continued his career as a truck driver. “Six Pack” as everyone in the trucking industry and all his friends knew him by would forever be his handle. Roberto loved truck driving, he loved the road, and he was our go to GPS when traveling. He was our Google Maps and geography guide. He was a true truck driver, having driven through every state in the USA excluding Hawaii and Alaska. Truck driving all his life and he lived out his dream when he became the owner and operator of Double R Transports and Bixby Transports in Mercedes, Texas and La Feria, Texas respectively. With grit and determination, he built a successful business, but it was never about the money for Roberto—it was always about providing for his loved ones and ensuring they had everything they needed. Through it all, his family was his greatest priority. He eventually retired in 2019, and his days were filled with beautiful sunrises and sunsets with a cup of coffee or occasionally an ice-cold beer with his wife Refugia. In his retirement one of his hobbies and ambitions was to learn how to play the guitar. He would practice daily and even accompanied the church choir a few times. He was very proud and would play for his wife and children “Las Mananitas” on their birthdays and on Mother’s Day. You could find Roberto watching western movies at any given time. Another love he had was a love for horses and horse races. Roberto and his wife spent their 50th wedding anniversary at the Kentucky Derby which they talked about for months. He loved the sound of noise…that is the noise of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren running around in the house and yard. Above all, Roberto’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and sacrifice. He was a man whose entire world revolved around the well-being and happiness of his family. He worked tirelessly, not for personal glory, but so that those he loved could thrive. His sense of humor, his generosity, and his boundless love will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Roberto leaves behind his loving family to cherish his memory, his wife, Refugia and his five children, Noelia (Jaime) Flores, Carlos (Mary Lou) Guajardo, Sonia Guajardo, and Omar (Elizabeth) Guajardo; 13 grandchildren, Dana Nicole (Jacob) Gonzalez, David Charles DJ Garcia, Jr. (Christina Landero), James Xavier Flores; Asira Sylvia Guajardo; Carlos Daniel Guajardo (Ashley Barahona), John David Guajardo, Joseph Diego Guajardo; Roberto Luis Medrano, Richard Arcadio Lopez; Isaac Omar Guajardo, Sophia Elizabeth Guajardo, Jacklyn Villarreal, Serena Key; 8 great grandchildren, Allie Jae and Allen Arrow Gonzalez and Emily Annelise Garcia; Corey Robyn Castillo, Riley Dean Flores, Indy Reign Guajardo; John David Jr. and Carlos Daniel Guajardo Jr.; Sisters Vicky Guajardo (Javier) Guerrero of Weslaco, Texas, Sylvia Guajardo (Eleazar) Roman of Northport, Michigan, Raquel Guajardo Longoria of Weslaco, Texas and Sister In Law Emily Guajardo of Goodyear, Arizona, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. His passing was sudden and unexpected. As much as our hearts ache for him, we find comfort in knowing he has been reunited in Heaven with those who have preceded him in death. Roberto’s parents Ciriaco and Raquel Rivera Guajardo, his brothers Jaime and Joel Guajardo, his son Roberto Guajardo Jr. and his grandchildren Baby Omar Carlos Guajardo and Baby Amari Faith Guajardo. A celebration of Roberto’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of La Feria, Texas at a later date. We’d like to thank the ICU doctors and nurses at JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, California who cared for our Dad in his last hours along with New Journey Cremation and Funeral Services. So much kindness and compassion was shown to our family at our time of loss. We will be forever grateful. While Roberto may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever guide us. His laughter will echo in our memories, his wisdom will continue to shape our lives, and his love will remain a constant presence in our hearts.
