Teodora "Lola" Prado

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our sweet, sweet mom. Teodora “Lola” Prado, a beautiful soul of 88 years, went to meet our Lord on the early morning of December 31, 2025. She was fondly known as Lola or Lolita to those who knew her. She was born on February 16, 1937, in La Feria, Texas, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Velez Cobarrubias. She was a caring mother and wife, loved by her four children and husband of almost 60 years. She loved unconditionally and was first and foremost a selfless, devoted mother that dedicated her life always and without fail to provide strength and comfort to those closest to her heart. She was our angel on earth. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and always found pleasure in just sitting outside or by a window. She graduated from cosmetology school at the age of 19 and went on to practice as a hairstylist “Beautician” in Harlingen, Texas, for over 40 years. Faith and the Catholic Church were both central in establishing her personal relationship with God throughout her life. She was also involved in the Schoenstatt movement and was a member of the Santa Monicas. As a lifelong Catholic, she volunteered her time participating in church related activities and events. Lola was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was defined by faith, love, and quiet strength. She shared 59 loving years of marriage with her husband, Gilberto S. Prado, Sr. She is survived by her husband; her four children: Gilbert Prado, Jr. (Judy) of La Feria, Thelma P. Mughrabi (Yosef) of Harlingen, Ricardo C. Prado of Harlingen, and Juan Antonio Prado of San Antonio, Texas; and her six cherished grandchildren: Janina Jessette Perez (Mario), Gilbert Prado III, Gabriel Jose Prado, Judithan Jessette Prado, Mohammed Y. Mughrabi, and Omar Y. Mughrabi. She is also survived by her three beloved great-grandchildren: Jaelyn Perez, Jayde Perez, and Julian Perez. Also surviving her are two sisters, Sofia Puente and Irene Treviño (Baldemar). She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Maria Velez Cobarrubias, and her three siblings, Sylvestre Cobarrubias, Maria Solis, and Johnny Cobarrubias. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, departing the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito, with Father Joe Villalon as celebrant. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria, Texas. Pallbearers will be Yosef Mughrabi, Mario Perez, Gilbert Prado III, Gabriel Jose Prado, Mohammed Y. Mughrabi, and Omar Y. Mughrabi. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas.
