David Glen Draper, 71, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in Harlingen, Texas a few days short of his 72nd birthday. The son of L.C. and Margaret Draper of Edinburg, Texas, he grew up in Edinburg and had lived there for the past decade or so, following the passing of both his parents. He attended Edinburg public schools and Pan American University. His service in the U.S. military included six months in Vietnam. In his young adulthood he traveled widely alone, in Europe, Canada and the U.S. A brief early marriage ended in divorce. Despite a developmental disability that affected his social interactions and behavior throughout his life, David was a brilliant, energetic, and resourceful. He had a zest for life and a lively personality, and many will recall seeing him walking for miles to get whatever he needed. He knew everything about history -globally, over centuries- and followed politics avidly. He was kind to those he trusted. He was loved, and he will be missed . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother Louis. He is survived by his aunt Helen Draper Fagg, cousins Linda Ellsworth, Paul Draper, Sharon Wyse, Bill Goldsberry, and Nonda Turner. The family extends gratitude to Blanca Salomon for her care in his final months. Contributions in his honor may be made to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC.org).
