Delia R. de León, 92 – Delia R. de León, longtime resident of Mercedes, Texas, entered peacefully into eternal rest at the age of 92 on Monday, March 1, 2021 at her home in Edinburg where she lived with her daughter Beatrice. Mrs. de León was born in La Feria, Texas, on October 9, 1928 but lived in Mercedes, Texas for the majority of her life. She obtained her Texas beautician’s license in 1952 and worked in Brownsville for 7 years until returning to Mercedes in 1959 to open Delia’s Beauty Shop, a beauty salon she owned and operated for 45 years before retiring in 2004. She loved her chosen career and considered all her beauty salon clients her best friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Juventino I. de León, Jr. to whom she was married for 67 years; her daughter, Teresa de León Acevedo; a grandson, Juan Carlos Barrera; parents Severo Ruelas and Rosario González Ruelas; brothers Juan Severo Ruelas, José Roen Ruelas, and Juan Alberto Ruelas; and sisters Petra Ruelas Hamilton, Mary Helen Ruelas Olivares, and Rosa Ruelas Peña. Delia is survived by two sons, Gilbert P. de León and Francisco L. de León; three daughters, Beatrice de León Edwards, Rebecca de León Wyche, and María Cecilia de León García (Juan); thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Surviving her are also two brothers, Roberto Ruelas and Guadalupe Ruelas; and a sister, Dora Ruelas Alonzo. The family would like to thank the staff of the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Health Neuro ICU and DHR Health Hospice of Edinburg for their compassionate care and home assistance.Funeral services are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Mercedes, Texas. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, and to minimize health risks to Delia’s loved ones, final arrangements will be private.
