Guillermo A. Davis

February 6, 1941 - October 13, 2021

Guillermo A. Davis, 80, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Guillermo was born on February 6, 1941, in Los Ramones, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to parents, Maxie Davis and Altagracia Arenas Davis. His viewing will be held on Saturday, October 16 at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen with visitation from 3 pm to 9 pm. Sunday, October 17, from 12 pm to 9 pm with Rosary Service at 7 pm. Funeral will depart on Monday, October 18, 2021, at 1:30 pm for a 2:00 pm Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church with burial to follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery. Guillermo moved to Harlingen at the age of 6. He was the second oldest of 7 brothers and 3 sisters. He enjoyed sharing stories of his childhood with his children and grandchildren. A popular story was how he met the love of his life, our mother, and his wife of 64 years Oralia Cervantes Davis. They were married on March 3, 1957, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas. Dad always said that from the first time he saw Oralia – he knew that she was the girl for him. He loved to recall the day he saw his future wife for the first time. He was known to drive his 1949 Mercury to Fair Park to clean his car. On a particular day he saw a young lady walking with 2 friends to the park. He recalls getting the courage to walk up and speak to her. After a year of courtship, he proposed and in order to cover expenses for their wedding he sold his beloved 1949 Mercury for $500. Growing up we heard many stories of this 49 Mercury. Dad would speak of how shiny his car was and how he kept it immaculate. Dad would look at classic Mercury’s for sale and would comment how he wanted to purchase a Mercury again to drive our mother around town. As our parents prepared to renew their vows and celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on March 3, 2017, they were presented with a special gift. Their daughter, Irma C. Davis, purchased a 1949 Mercury identical to dad’s car and surprised them with it. Dad drove his wife to church, to renew their vows, in his Mercury, which was a wish he had. Thereafter the couple would take their Mercury out for cruises, car shows, parades, etc. They won many awards with their car and spent many Saturdays parked at Conn’s parking lot, showcasing their car. Dad loved to drive his 1949 Mercury. Guillermo worked for 51 years and retired on January 1, 2014, from Valley Co-Op Oil Mill. He started as a general laborer and worked his way up to VALCO’s Assistant Superintendent of Operations. He had a strong work ethic and was a hard worker. He raised his family with that same strong work ethic and he along with Oralia have served as role models to their children. Guillermo is survived by his wife Oralia C. Davis, daughters Irma C. Davis, Gloria Curry (John+), Diana Sosa (Hector), Delia Padilla (Jose), sons Robert (Mary), Max (Angie), John (Dalinda), Gilbert (Rosie), Guillermo Jr., and Daniel. Brothers Librado, Lupe, Max, Rolando, and Julio Davis. 19 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Maxie and Altagracia Davis, children Guillermo Davis Jr, Janie Davis, siblings Amparo Ponce, Socorro Garza, Petra Tijerina, and Esteban Davis. Honored to serve as Pallbearers are, John Davis Jr., Joey Padilla, Matthew Padilla, Robert Davis Jr., Jonathan Davis, and Robert Curry. Funeral services are under the direction and care of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Harlingen, Texas.
