Maria R. Pena

January 6, 1941 - January 18, 2022

Maria R. Pena, 81, a lifetime resident of Mercedes Tx. went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022. She was born January, 6 1941 to Alfonso and Gregoria Alvarado Cano in Mercedes Tx. She is survived by her loving family; Children Gracie Pena, Tina (Ronald) Shira, and Daniel Pena, 1 sister/Best friend; Amelia Villanueva and her 8 grandchildren, 7 greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pena retired after 38 years of service as a cook at the Mercedes Independent School District. Her passions in life was her family, her work, cooking, planting in her garden, and being a servant of Jesus. She is and will forever be dearly loved and missed by all those that knew her. Visitations for Maria R. Pena will be held Thursday January 20, 2022 from 1pm-8pm with a religious service at 7pm. All services will be held at Rio Life Community Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 10am with a service at Noon. We will depart Rio Life Community Church at 1:15pm for internment at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery In La Feria Tx. Funeral Services are under the direction and care of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Mercedes, Texas.
