Maricela Reyes

Raymondville - Maricela "Mari" Ramirez Reyes-beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend returned to her heavenly home on Thursday, September 29, 2022, after a 15 year battle with dementia. Mari was the only living daughter of Pedro and Socorro Ramirez, born on June 19, 1955, at her parents' home on Alan Castleberry Farm near Santa Rosa, Texas. A lifelong resident of La Feria, Texas, Mari spent ten years as a teacher's aide for the local school district. Devoted to pursuing a secondary education, Mari spent her days working and nights taking education classes at University of Texas at Brownsville. After several years of hard work and determination, Mari earned her degree in Bilingual Education and went on to teach at Ben Milam Elementary School for seven years. Mari had a fiery spirit and stood up for what she believed in, no matter the obstacles in her way. She was a passionate woman who touched countless lives with her wisdom, her humor, her laughter, and her love. Maricela is preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Socorro Ramirez. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Martin Reyes, son Jaime (Kate) Ramirez, daughters Marivel (Bill) Reyes-Hamilton and Angelica Socorro (Edwin) Reyes-Quintanilla, and grandchildren Margaret Ramirez, Jackson Ramirez, and Marcie Quintanilla. She is also survived by her beloved brothers Victor Ramirez, Mario (Mary) Ramirez, Martin (Daisy) Ramirez, nephews Michael (Megan) Ramirez and Victor Ramirez, Jr., nieces Nikki Ramirez and Emily Ramirez and several great nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Senior Care-Abri Health, who cared for Mari for the past seven years. Visitation will be held at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX on Monday, October 3, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX at 2:00 P.M. with burial to follow at Heavenly Grace Cemetery in La Feria, TX. Pallbearers are Martin Ramirez, Mario Ramirez, Victor Ramirez, Jaime Ramirez, Edwin Quintanilla and Matthew Kelso, with honorary pallbearer Justin Rock. Please come pay respects to the family and friends of this amazing woman who was loved so dearly, and who had a life well lived.
