Ramiro Hernandez
April 24, 1957 - May 9, 2022
Ramiro Hernandez, 65, (also known as Dad, Grandpa Ram, Ram, El Vale, Bits and Pieces, and The Flowerbed Specialist) passed peacefully at MD Anderson on Monday, May 9, 2022. To know him, was to love him. If there was a stage, he was on it, playing his guitar and harmonica and filling the room with joy. He gave his life to the Lord at a very young age and his faith was strong. Most memories include him enjoying the beach, singing, surfing and skateboarding, playing golf, gathering with friends at the park, and enjoying every moment. He loved his family, adored his grandson, Dominic, and was extremely thoughtful, kind, and generous. Ramiro was born in Harlingen, Texas on April 24, 1957 and graduated from Harlingen High School. He is preceded in death by his mother, Pilar Hernandez Navarro, and father, Guadalupe Guerra. He is survived by his daughter Summer (Hernandez) Salazar, her husband Justin Salazar, and his favorite Chiquito (grandson), Dominic Salazar of Austin, Texas, and his high school sweetheart and wife of 37 years, Sandra Calzada Hernandez. He is also survived by his siblings Domingo Navarro (Amy), Guadalupe Navarro, Nick Hernandez (Janie), Mario Guerra (Liz), Letty Vega (David), Hilda Gathright (Gerald), George Leal (Stacey), numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, whom he adored. His celebration of life will focus on prayer, music, and memories and will take place on Friday, June 3 from 5pm – 7pm at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas. Our family would like to thank the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at MD Anderson, and Tio Russo and Tia Fina for their love and support. The compassion and care he received was world-class. “We will take it one day at a time, sweet Jesus”. Take it easy, Ramiro. We love you.
