Senaido (Sam) Martinez Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Senaido Martinez, affectionately referred to as Sam by family and friends, succumbed on August 2, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born in La Feria, TX on June 5, 1929, to Margarito Martinez and Guadalupe C. Martinez. He graduated from La Feria High School in 1947, and continued his education at Durham's Business College in Harlingen, TX where he obtained a Business and Accounting Certificate. Sam was employed for more than 40 years; 3 years at Martinez Grocery Wholesalers in Harlingen, 3 years at F.H. Valhsing Co. in Mathis, TX and 35 yers at the Pacific Fruit & Produce./Ameri-Fresh in La Feria where he was an accountant and office manager. Sam also obitained his Real Estate Broker license and worked part-time with W.E. Holley Real Estate in La Feria, TX. Sam was very active in the city of La Feria. He served for numerous years on the La Feria City Utility Board; 18 years on the La Feria ISD School Board; and since 1982, he was a charter member and very active with the Lions Club of La Feria, having served in many capacities. Sam was a very dedicated and devout member of St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria, always willing to serve in any way he was asked to. He servied on the parish board, was a Eucharistic Minister for many years, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree Knight. He was also very dedicated to Marian Apostolic Schoenstatt Movement. He and his wife Tina were leaders of a Schoenstatt Couples group since 1965 and was co-founder of the first course for families in the Schoenstatt Family Federation in the USA. Sam enjoyed traveling and always remembered fondly his visit to the Original Schoenstatt Shrine in Germany, the Vatican and Assisi, Italy. He had also traveled extensively throughout Mexico, visiting many religious and historical sights. Sam is survived by his loving wife, Valentina "Tina" Martinez whom he married in 1951; a daughter, Maria Patricia (Juan Jose +) Saenz of La Feria; a son, Jose Ricardo (Lisalina+) Martinez of La Feria; 2 grandchildren, Jose Ricardo (Stephanie) Martinez II of Houston and Julianne R. Martinez of Shrewsbury, PA and 2 great-grandchildren, Connor Christian Martinez of Denton and Amy Zuniga of Houston. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Sam is predeceased by his beloved son, Jose Rolando Martinez; 2 sisters, Mary Martinez and Oralia Martinez and his brother, Rafael Martinez. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6, 2021 with a rosary to begin at 9:00 AM and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
