William S. "Pat" Patterson

We are saddened to announce the passing of Honorable Mayor William S. "Pat" Patterson of Primera, Texas, California native. He died at the age of 74 years old. Pat passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Pat's memory includes his generosity, huge heart and his contagious smile. Pat was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and 2 tours to Iraq. For his service he earned 2 Purple Hearts and bronze star medal, along with many other awards. He served honorably in the Marines and Army for a total of 33 years of service achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. Along with loving his wife and family, Pat served his community as Commissioner and Mayor for over two decades. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 11070. Pat was a fun spirited soul whose passion included traveling/RVing with his wife, fishing, cheering on his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers, as well as his grandchildren's many sports activities and accomplishments, and hosting ALL family functions. He made an impact on many lives. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Virginia Patterson; his son Charlie Cavazos (Kelly), daughter Michele Patterson; 4 grandchildren Madalyne, William "Liam", Ashley, and Audrey; brother Charles Patterson, Jr.; and his best friend and companion, his dog Price. He is preceded in death by his father Charles Alfred Patterson; mother Shirley King and brother Michael Scott. Visitation will be held at Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and also on Sunday April 23, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with the rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 24, 2023 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with interment to follow at Combes Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Robert Ramos, Nico Garza, Felix Gonzalez, Joel Ryan, Michael Sump, Remyi Fredson-Cole, Eli Moreno, and Baldomero Grimaldo. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Patterson, Jr., Liam Cavazos, Nolan Sump, and Robbie Ramos. "Dear Lord, we ask that you open your kingdom to him as he has opened his kingdom to all of us here on earth." Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.
