Xavier Benavides

January 27, 1955 - January 30, 2022

Xavier Benavides 67, of Harlingen went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 30, 2022. He was born January 27, 1955 in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Gilberto and Librada Benavides who preceded him in death. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Rosemary Benavides; 4 children, Cynthia (David) Benitez, Marina (Jay) Lohmer, Xavier Gabriel (Angie) Benavides and Jennifer (Thomas) O'Rourke; he was a proud grandfather to 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marina B. Trujillo and 3 brothers, Gilbert Benavides, Jr., Jaime Benavides and Sergio Benavides. While in high school Xavier earned his black belt in martial arts. He had a long career in retail as a store manager for a variety of stores. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and treasured his time with his family. Xavier was well known throughout the faith community and he loved sharing his faith with others. He was a generous man who encouraged everyone he met. In his spare time he enjoyed trips to the flea markets and looking for bargains. He was a proud Republican and Trump supporter. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a prayer service to begin at 6:00 PM. and a rosary will follow at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home and interment will follow at Heavenly Grace Cemetery.
