Antonio Limas Hernandez

Antonio Limas Hernandez, 102, went to be with The Lord on Thursday, November 14, 2013. Antonio was born on January 17, 1911 in Linares, Nuevo Leon Mexico to Juan Hernandez and Daria Limas Hernandez. He moved with his mother and siblings to the United States at the age of 7 after his father passed away. After becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States, Antonio was employed with the Texas Highway Department, constructing roads in the Rio Grande Valley. In 1950 he was hired by the Bush Supply Company in Harlingen and worked there for 26 years until his retirement in 1976. Antonio was married to Angelita Hernandez in 1932, and they went on to share nearly 50 rewarding years together before her passing in 1980. Over the course of their marriage, the couple experienced the joys and challenges of parenting 11 beloved children. In his retirement years, Antonio has remained active by caring for his home, yard and livestock and taking part in church activities. He delighted in sharing evenings of laughter and Mexican ballads with his children as well as spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He said on many occasions that he considered his family to be his greatest accomplishment. He is survived by his children, Juan Hernandez (Susana), Hilda Hortencia Leal, Antonio Hernandez Jr. (Marian), Lydia Sanchez (Gilberto), Manuel P. Hernandez (Maria Elena), Maria de los Santos Yanes, Raul Elizondo (Carolina), Rodrigo Hernandez (Leticia), Jose Olivar Hernandez (Sylvia) Esmeralda Irene Salinas (Paul) of Harlingen and Maria del Jesus Martinez (Arturo) of San Antonio, 33 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Antonio was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Daria Hernandez, 6 sisters and 2 brothers, his wife Angelita Hernandez, a daughter Elodia Hernandez, a grandson Raulito Leal, a great-grandson Daymen Ryan Graber and a son-in-law Jesus Ricardo Leal. Visitation hours will be held from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Rudy Garza Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 1313 W Buchanan St., Harlingen, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Restlawn. Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Leal, Mark Hernandez, Juan Sanchez, Alex Soto, Ronnie Hernandez Jr., and Olivar Hernandez Jr. Antonio was an admired patriarch who was a source of wisdom and inspiration to all who were privileged to know him. Arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.
