Coinda M. Vasquez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Coinda Vasquez, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, who peacefully left this world surrounded by love. Coinda was reunited with her husband of 66 years, Tomas Vasquez, who preceded her in death in 2022. Together, they built a life filled with love, resilience, and an enduring commitment to family. Coinda and Tomas, who married without any extended family of their own, made the beautiful decision to create a large family. Though Tomas dreamed of having a dozen children, the couple was blessed with nine. They endured the heartbreak of losing a child at the age of seven in 1979 but found immense joy in their remaining eight children: Maria Luisa Sandoval, Tomas Vasquez, Jr., Manuel Vasquez, Carlos Vasquez, Maria Teresa Salazar, Lucinda V. Rosignol, Ana L. Vasquez and Alberto Vasquez who brought 43 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren into their lives. Coinda’s family became her greatest pride and joy. Known for her kind and selfless spirit, Coinda lived her life putting others first. She faced life’s hardships with unwavering grace and was a sweet, loving woman cherished by all who knew her. Her home was the heart of the family, especially in the mornings, when she lovingly prepared fresh tortillas, salsa, beans, and eggs for anyone who came by. Coinda was not only a devoted matriarch but also a woman of many talents and passions. She sewed clothes for her family, delighted in browsing thrift stores, and took pride in a bedroom wall covered with sponsorship posters of her grandchildren. She adored shoes and had a collection that brought her much joy. One of her favorite pastimes was working on jigsaw puzzles, and she found comfort in lighting candles, believing their glow and her prayers would help keep her family safe. Among her constant companions was her loyal dog, Lilly, who brought her comfort and companionship in her later years. Coinda’s warm presence, her devotion to her family, and her countless acts of kindness leave a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Coinda Vasquez’s life was a testament to love, strength, and generosity. She will be profoundly missed, but her memory will be carried on through the family she cherished so deeply. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and a prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 18, 2024 with a chapel service beginning at 1:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home and burial will follow to Harlingen-Combes Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home.
