Dora Ortega Quintana

With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Dora Ortega Quintana, who entered into eternal rest on the morning of August 6, 2026, at the age of 84. Surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, Dora passed away as the sun rose over her beloved family farm in Rio Hondo, Texas—a place she cherished throughout her life. Dora was born on January 15, 1942, in Rio Hondo, Texas, to Victor Sr. and Delfina J. Ortega. She was raised in the close-knit community of Rio Hondo, where she developed the strong values of faith, family, hard work, and service that would define her life. In August 1960, Dora married the love of her life, Arturo Quintana. Together they built a loving home and shared 29 wonderful years of marriage until Arturo's passing. Their enduring love and devotion to one another remained an inspiration to their family. Dora was known for her unwavering generosity, perseverance, deep Catholic faith, and steadfast commitment to serving the Lord. A devoted Catholic, she was a longtime member of the Guadalupana Society at both St. Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo and Assumption Catholic Church in Harlingen. She found great joy in decorating the churches for religious celebrations and special events and lifting her voice in praise as a member of the church choir. For 23 years, Dora lovingly served as a paraprofessional with the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. She touched the lives of countless young children with her patience, kindness, and nurturing spirit, leaving a lasting impression on the students and families she served. Above all else, Dora treasured her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She also had a remarkable gift for growing beautiful flowers and plants, creating gardens that reflected the same love and care she poured into every aspect of her life. Dora is lovingly survived by her children, Veronica (Elizandro Jr.) Muñoz, Arthur Joseph (Tina) Quintana, and Alma Q. (Richard) Alvarez; her eight beloved grandchildren; five cherished great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arturo Quintana; her son, Arturo Jose Quintana; her parents, Victor Sr. and Delfina Ortega; and her siblings: Elodia Longoria, Guadalupe "Lupe" O. Gonzales, Maria O. Garza, Herminia O. Gonzales, Otila O. Gonzales, Josefina Ortega, Ester Gonzalez, Arcelia O. Boyd, Jose Ortega, Roberto Ortega, Samuel Ortega, and Victor Ortega. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Chris with Gentiva Hospice and Marianna with Aqua Cristalina for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Dora during her final days. Their dedication brought comfort not only to Dora but to her entire family. Visitation will be held on August 14th, 2026, from 01:00 PM to 09:00 PM at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen. A Funeral Mass celebrating Dora's life will be held on Saturday, August 15th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Helen's Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Though Dora's presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, love, compassion, and service will continue to live on through the family she cherished, the children she taught, the parish communities she faithfully served, and all who were blessed to know her. Serving as pallbearers will be Arthur Quintana, Jose Arturo Quintana, Elizandro Munoz III, Leonardo Lopez, Richard Alvarez, and Quintan S. Alvarez. Honorary pallbearers will be Elizandro Munoz Jr., Easton M. O’Donnell, Cecilo A. Lopez, Calixto G. Lopez, and Fransico Gonzalez.
