Elida Uresti Buenrostro

Elida Uresti Buenrostro, 93, entered into eternal rest on May 12, 2026, in Harlingen, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Elida was a woman of deep faith, compassion, and dedication to her community. Throughout her life, she faithfully served and supported those around her, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She was especially known for her unwavering support of members of her community who sought public office, and many relied on her strength, encouragement, and determination. Those who knew Elida often said, “She would make it happen,” a reflection of her generous spirit and steadfast commitment to others. She found great joy in singing and cooking for her family. Above all, Elida’s greatest treasure was her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought immense pride and happiness to her life. She truly cherished every moment spent with them. Elida was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rene I. Buenrostro; her two sons, Rene Buenrostro, Jr. and Xavier Buenrostro; her sisters, Christina Saenz and Rosa Juarez; and her parents, Jose Uresti and Maria Figueroa. She is lovingly survived by her children: Noe Buenrostro of Weslaco, Texas; Alessandra Hernandez; and Elda Huerta and her husband, Neo, of Mercedes, Texas. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Noe Buenrostro, Jessica Buenrostro, Peter Buenrostro, Paul Buenrostro, Kevin Huerta, Kason Huerta, Rene Buenrostro, Rachel Buenrostro, Michael Soto, Victoria Kandyce Hernandez, and Emily Garza, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Mercedes, Texas. The funeral service will take place on Monday, May 18, 2026, departing the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. for a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, Texas, with Father Jean Olivier M. Sambu officiating. Interment will follow at Mercedes Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Mercedes, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Huerta, Kason Huerta, Peter Buenrostro, Paul Buenrostro, Rene Buenrostro, and Noah Buenrostro. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregiver, Mary Almanzan, for the love, care, and compassion she provided to Elida. They also extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the 6th Floor at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen for their care and support during this difficult time.
