Gilberto S. Perez, Sr.

Gilberto S. Perez, Sr., 79, entered into eternal rest on June 26, 2026, in Harlingen, Texas. Gilberto was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force who served his country with honor and dedication. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life, and he carried that same sense of commitment and integrity into everything he did. Following his service in the Air Force, Gilberto began a career with Anderson Greenwood, where he faithfully worked for 20 years before retiring. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and dedication, earning the respect of his coworkers throughout the years. Outside of work, Gilberto found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He had a passion for classic cars, enjoyed spending time fishing with family and friends, and especially loved gathering his loved ones around the barbecue pit. Cooking for his family brought him immense joy, and those gatherings became treasured moments filled with laughter, stories, and lasting memories. More than anything, Gilberto cherished the time he spent with his family, and his greatest fulfillment came from seeing those he loved together. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family touched countless lives. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Gilberto is survived by his six loving children: Martha Gehr of La Feria, Librado Herrera of La Feria, Gilberto Perez, Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Santa Rosa, Veronica P. Cavazos and her husband, Felix, of La Feria, Arturo Perez and his wife, Janie, of La Feria, and Samantha Perez and her husband, Armando, of Santa Rosa. He also leaves behind 26 cherished grandchildren, 51 beloved great-grandchildren, and one precious great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Rosa Herrera, Maria "Fela" Martinez and her husband, Pedro, Dolores Perez, Benito Perez and his wife, Mary, and Clara Araiza. Gilberto was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amelia H. Perez; his parents, Benito Perez, Sr., and Clara Sedeño Perez; and his brother, Francisco Xavier Perez. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen. The funeral procession will depart Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, Texas. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen, Texas, with Military Honors rendered under the auspices of the American Legion Post 20 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2410. Serving as pallbearers will be Felix Cavazos III, Gilberto Perez III, Ernest Gehr, Armando Lara, Jr., Jacoby Perez, and Librado Herrera. Gilberto's legacy of faith, patriotism, hard work, and unconditional love for his family will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. Funeral arrangements are under the direction and compassionate care of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas.
