Guadalupe “Lupita” Maria Hernandez, 78, of Harlingen, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 19, 2026. She was born on October 5, 1947, in San Pedro, Texas, to Jesus Carmona and Elida Ramos. Lupita was a woman full of life, known for her joyful spirit and warm personality. She was truly a social butterfly who cherished time spent with her friends, especially during her regular coffee visits at Whataburger. A proud cancer survivor, Lupita embraced life with strength and gratitude. She also loved to travel to visit her friends, always looking forward to her next trip. Lupita had a love for music and dancing, often sharing her talents and enthusiasm with others. She proudly participated in and won many Grito contests, bringing smiles and energy wherever she went. She also enjoyed attending church festivals throughout Harlingen, supporting not only her own parish but many others in the community. Before dedicating her life to her family, Lupita worked at Lara’s Bakery. She will be remembered for her happiness, her laughter, and the love she shared with everyone around her. Her family will always treasure her delicious homemade meals, especially her nopales, buñuelos, and capirotada, which brought everyone together. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Jose Hernandez; and her siblings, Hermenigildo Carmona, Felipe Carmona, and Gustavo Carmona. Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Elida Hernandez; her grandchildren, Maria Elida Lopez (Jorge), Jose Heraquio Ortega (Joanna De Luna), and Jesus Palomo Ortega (Corina Rodriguez); her great-grandchildren, Mayte Lopez, Genesis Ortega, Jenni Lopez, and Giselle Ortega; and her brothers, Ramiro Carmona and Jesus Carmona. Visitation will begin Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM and a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026 departing the Rudy Garza Funeral Home at 12:30 PM for a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jose Ortega, Jesus Ortega, Jorge Lopez, Gustavo Carmona, Raul Mata and Ramiro Pecina. Lupita will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her joyful spirit and love for life will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
