Julian Martinez Briones

Julian Martinez Briones, 96, entered into rest peacefully on August 28, 2026, in Santa Rosa, Texas. Julian was a hardworking and devoted family man who cherished his loved ones dearly. His greatest passion was farming, and he was happiest outdoors, tending to his animals and caring for the land. A rancher at heart, Julian found great joy in the simple blessings of life and took pride in the work of his hands. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially football. He was a proud supporter of the Santa Rosa Warriors, the Dallas Cowboys, and the UT Longhorns. Julian leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Delia Briones of Santa Rosa; and their three children, Nora Briones of Austin, Julian Briones, Jr., of Santa Rosa, and Jesus Enrique Briones of Santa Rosa. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Julia Janette Lara, Julian Briones, III, Francine Hernandez, Enrique Jesus Briones, and Jesse Cody Briones; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, Erasmo Briones, Jr. (Tina) of Santa Rosa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erasmo Briones and Tomasita Martinez Briones; four sisters, Maria Ester Briones, Maria Ignacia Ovalle, Francisca Gonzalez, and Vera Smith; and four brothers, Juan Briones, Juan Pablo Briones, Vicente Briones, and Pete Briones. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen, Texas. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. both evenings. The funeral procession will depart the funeral home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, Texas, with Father Francisco Pon as celebrant. Burial will follow at Santo Nombre Cemetery in Santa Rosa, Texas. Pallbearers will be Francine Hernandez, Enrique Jesus Briones, Jesse Cody Briones, Janette Lara, AJ Lara, and Julian Hinojosa. Honorary pallbearers will be Lorenzo Ovalle and Julian Ovalle. Julian will be lovingly remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the land and animals, his passion for football, and most of all, the love he shared with his family. His memory will remain a cherished part of the lives of all who knew and loved him. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas.
