Luz C. Velasquez

Luz C. Velasquez, age 87, peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 17, 2025, in Harlingen, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Luz was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose faith and love touched everyone who knew her. She faithfully attended Peniel Church in Harlingen for over 50 years, where she served her congregation as a Sunday school teacher and secretary. Her unwavering devotion to God and her family defined her life and legacy. Luz was a loving and selfless mother who raised her children with strength, grace, and deep compassion. She is survived by her five children: Rosalinda Gonzales (Eliseo) of Harlingen, TX; Normalinda Hernandez (Luis) of Grand Prairie, TX; Rick Velasquez (Monica) of Rio Hondo, TX; David Rodriguez (Arminda) of Rio Hondo, TX; and Esteban Carrisalez (Marisela) of Wichita Falls, TX. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to twelve grandchildren: Eliseo Gonzales III, Andrew Gonzales, Anthony Gonzales, Derrick Rocha, Delilah Rocha, Denise Hernandez, Doreen Hernandez, Hannah Velasquez, Brianna Velasquez, Josiah Velasquez, Stephanie Carrisalez, and Joshua Carrisalez. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, and five beloved sisters: Cruz Vallejo, Feni Borjorquez, Eva Marroquin, Margie Balboa, and Linda Flores. Luz was preceded in death by her parents, Federico and Anita Carrisalez; and four siblings: Petra Monsibaiz, Federico Carrisalez Jr., Andres Carrisalez, and Ruby Lara. Known for her warm and generous spirit, Luz found joy in the simple things—sewing, cooking for her loved ones, and worshiping at church. Her faith, perseverance, and love for her family will continue to inspire all who knew her. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m., at Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace in Harlingen. The funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, beginning with a 9:00 a.m. chapel service at Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace. The funeral procession will depart at 9:30 a.m., followed by interment at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. Pallbearers will be Joshua Lopez, Noah Gonzales, Anthony Gonzales, Josiah Velasquez, Nehemiah Gonzales, and Gilberto Manuel Hinojosa III. Honorary pallbearers are Eliseo Gonzales III and Brianna Velasquez. Luz’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
