Miguel Castaneda Jr.

It is with great sadness, but peace that we announce the gain of a new angel in heaven. Miguel Castaneda Jr. went to be with our Lord on January 2, 2025. Miguel was born in Brownsville, Texas to Miguel and Josefina Castaneda on November 20, 1936. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was proud to be a veteran and wore his army cap with pride, placing it next to his head while in the hospital during his final days. Miguel married the beautiful Yolanda Garcia on June 24, 1962. Yolanda was the most beautiful and greatest blessing Miguel could have asked for. She took care of him from the beginning up until his last moment. Miguel and Yolanda have two daughters, Maria Gloria Gonzalez (David Gonzalez) of Fort Myers, Florida and Melissa Yvette Castaneda of Harlingen, Texas. Grandchildren include Michael David Gonzalez (Marisa Chesler Gonzalez), Marissa Yvette Gonzalez Curtis (Lucas Curtis), and Noah Cristian Castaneda. Miguel also had 4 great-grandchildren. Miguel worked with Mercedes Water Supply all his life. He enjoyed going to the stock show and flea market with his daughter Gloria, listening to his daughter Melissa play the piano, and selecting the biggest Christmas tree they could find every Christmas. He loved woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Miguel was a brother to Maria Gloria Garcia, Ninfa Castaneda+, Maria del Refugio Barrera, Dalida Ramos, and Marcela Guerra. Miguel loved his siblings very much. We would like to give a special thanks to the family members and friends who visited him at the nursing home during his stay, those who helped bring him home for the weekends, took him out to eat, as well as all who helped take Yolanda to daily nursing home visits. We will never forget your kind gestures. Yolanda Castaneda, Maria Gloria Gonzalez, Melissa Castaneda, Noah Castaneda, Diana and Guadalupe Longoria, Dalida Ramos, Ruben and Rachel Garcia, Maria Barrera, Aide Mora, Alondra, Jesus and Diego Maldonado. Pallbearers are Micheal Gonzalez, Eddie Garcia, Sergio Lopez, Gilbert Cantu, Rolando Rodriguez and Rene Garcia. Honorary Pallbearers are Noah Castaneda and David Gonzalez Visitation will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, departing the funeral home at 12:30 pm for a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen. Burial will follow at Heavenly Grace Cemetery in La Feria, Texas Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas.
