Pedro Antonio "Tony" Canales

Pedro Antonio “Tony” Canales, age 63, entered into Heaven on May 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 2, 1961, in Los Indios, Texas, Tony was the beloved son of the late Abelino Canales and Maria Isabel Hernandez. Tony was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Benito Canales. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 41 years, Norma D. Canales; his two sons, Michael Canales and Matthew Canales; two sisters, Blanca Garza (David) and Dora Longoria (Valerio); and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory. To his sons, Tony was more than a father—he was a role model, mentor, and their greatest supporter. Charismatic and outgoing, Tony poured his heart into giving them the best life possible. His love was unwavering, and his guidance enduring. He taught them to live with compassion, humility, and faith, always encouraging them to dream boldly and pursue life with confidence. Tony’s life was grounded in his deep faith in God. He served faithfully for many years as a Catechist at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and participated in numerous ACTS Retreats, later serving as a dedicated ACTS Team Member. His devotion to the Church and community was a reflection of his selfless nature and desire to help others grow in their spiritual journey. To his friends and peers, Tony will be remembered as a generous, resilient, and ambitious man of great integrity. He had a gift for connecting with people, making friends everywhere he went with his warm smile and infectious sense of humor. Loyal, empathetic, and trustworthy, Tony was the kind of man others could always count on. He mentored many and lived his life in service to others, never expecting anything in return. Tony’s legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and the memories shared with his family—particularly the cherished vacations and trips to South Padre Island. Tony was also a great cook and loved grilling for his family and friends, everything he grilled was delicious. His laughter, faith, and unconditional love will forever be remembered. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Rudy Garza Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, departing the funeral home at 11:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery. Though he may be gone from this world, Tony’s light, love, and legacy will continue to shine through all who knew and loved him.
