Ricardo Gonzo Gonzalez

Ricardo L. "Gonzo" Gonzalez passed away Sunday, May 03, 2015 at VBMC Harlingen, Texas after a lengthy illness. He was 59 years old. Rick was a lifelong resident of Primera, Texas. He was born with a heart of gold. He was the tireless champion of anyone in need who came to him for help. He characteristically helped these people for free. From the moment he learned how to barbecue, he would use his culinary skills on behalf of dozens of people, local charities and churches in need. The briskets and fajitas Rick barbecued over the years never failed to draw an eager crowd. Most of the people he helped were complete strangers to him, but that didn't matter to Rick. Where others would shake their heads and say that's a shameâ€¦ when people were in need, Rick would say, let's go help them. Rick truly was a Good Samaritan. Rick was an avid sportsman. In his final years, he found great joy in taking his son Vidal to the Annual Central Ready Mix Father Son Hunting Trip. Rick also enjoyed fishing with friends and family. As his health declined, Rick enjoyed long drives with his wife Angela and their son Vidal. Often, they were joined by any friend or relative who happened to drop by as they headed out for another adventure. Rick loved taking them to places like Arroyo City and even as far away as the King's Inn in Rivera Texas. The food was worth the drive he'd say. These long drives always sparked great conversations with whoever happened to join the ride. When Rick was driving, the journey truly was better than the destination. No matter where they went, the trip always seemed to end too soon. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Maria Gonzalez, brothers Santos Jr. and Roberto "Bobby" Gonzalez. He is survived by his loving wife Angela their son Vidal and his children Ricardo Jr. (J.R.) and Regina Renee. He leaves behind three beautiful grandchildren Michael David, Malechi Triston and Matthija Ricardo. His surviving siblings are Candido and Margie Gonzalez from Laredo, sisters Oneida and Sallie Gonzalez both from Primera,TX and Linda (Richard) Vega from Kingsville Texas. Rick's good nature earned him the respect and admiration of hundreds of friends, relatives, neighbors and coworkers. His presence will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 beginning 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and a holy rosary will be at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday with a chapel service at 3:00 PM and interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park Cemetery. Honored to be his pallbearers will be some of his closest friends, Richard Linn, Richard Siller, Benito Pena, Jose S. (JoJo) Maldonado, Ramon Perez, Raul Hinojosa, Heriiberto Pena and Ruben Mercado. Honorary pallbearers will be Jose Zuniga, Guadalupe C. Gonzales, Angie Suarez, Ruben Ramirez, Arnie Ramirez, Jose De La Serna, Tim Gonzalez, Gunner Gonzalez. Rick's family would like to extend a special thank you to Lyle Linn and Richard Linn with Central Ready Mix and Richard Siller. Their frequent visits and good company were a great comfort to Rick.
