Edelmiro (Ed) Jose Garza Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

EDELMIRO (ED) JOSE GARZA, 69 of Rockford, IL was born on August 5, 1950 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Maurilio and Virginia (Rodriguez) Garza and passed away March 7, 2020 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his wife and children. Ed was a beloved husband to Maria Guadalupe (Montemayor) Garza; loving father to Gloria Elena Garza, Griselda (Jim) Durand, and Adrian Alexandro (Jacqueline) Garza; cherished grandfather to Isabella Nicolasa Garza, Benicio Rafael Garza, Alexandro Bernabe Garza, and Eduardo James Durand. He is also survived by his brothers: Eleazar (Maria de la Luz) Garza, Hector (Yolanda) Garza, Ernesto Garza and his sisters Maria Elida (John) Brittain and Maria Enedina Gonzalez. Ed was also an uncle to many nieces, nephew and Godchildren. Ed was predeceased by granddaughters Alejandra Grace Durand and Katarina Griselda Durand, his brother Heriberto Garza, and his parents. Ed ran his own business for 20 years and simultaneously worked for Chrysler for 30 years and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union 1268 to provide a comfortable life for his family. Upon retirement he enjoyed scuba diving and was PADI certified along with his son. He always enjoyed traveling to the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, and Playa del Carmen with his family. He loved his mother-in-laws ranch “el rancho” and found peace there hunting and taking the kids on ‘hikes’ to fix fences, cut bushes, herd cows, and have bonfires late into the night. Visitation will be March 10, 2020 at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen from 4pm to 9pm with a Rosary at 7pm. A service will be on March 11, 2020 departing Rudy Garza Funeral Home at 1:30pm for a mass at 2pm at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of La Feria at 500 N Canal Street. In lieu of flowers, the Garza family will pass along any monetary donations to the La Feria food pantry.
